Green Infrastructure Master Plan

The Consett Green ‘Masterplan’ brings together ongoing and proposed landscape and environmental projects contributing to our net zero aims and mitigating carbon emissions. In addition, it highlights the positive wellbeing benefits of the footpath access associated with these developments and the linkages and other opportunities the schemes provide.

These projects and proposals enhance Consett’s significant and much loved, existing green infrastructure of public footpaths, cycle ways, parks, meadows and woodlands.

The Masterplan also outlines  potential enhancement schemes in Consett around four themes:

  • Improving entrances and key routes • Improving infrastructure of key development zones • Improving existing green spaces • Creating new public spaces

These themes are linked to key areas such as the Town Centre, National Cycle Network, recreational routes, existing green space, and unused sites like the former Blackhill Primitive Methodist chapel on Durham Road  now undergoing a transformation into a contemplative ‘pocket park’.
